November 5, 2012 Letter to Home

Dear Familia,
Wow, the time does sure fly by when your on the mission!  So, how are you guys doing?  How is everything going with work, school, the home, etc.?  Man, I can't believe how much more grown-up Gracie looks.  What is she thinking?  She can't grow up on me.  Just kidding.  Yeah, and in the picture of Ty's b-day, he looked a lot like me.  IT WAS WEIRD!  Yeah, I'm surprised Matt let you guys get the house that messy. =) Ha Ha Ha, just kidding.  I know you guys will clean it.

(Note from Mom- The house was messy for several reasons.  One- it was Halloween and Ty's b-day, so we had dinner ingredients out for Chinese food, Tyler's favorite.  Two- we had the gak ingredients all out because we taught the first grade classes how to make gak for their Halloween party. Three- we just got sod for the back yard and I was busy trying to help fix meals for the guys working on the sod, as well as reconstructing costumes and cooking dinner!  Messes are made quickly at home- unless you have time to clean it up. )

Well, today we had a little journey to Walmart.  We got McDonald's for lunch and it was really good.  I know I haven't been a McDonald's fan before, but it is really good here.  We splurged a little and got some McFlurry's which was super tasty!  Yeah, my companion just got sick.  He's throwing up right now.  We took a little rest and he woke up with a really bad headache and feeling nauseous. Hope he gets better soon.

Well, back to the story.  So, after McD's we shopped around in Walmart.  We went to the drink section, and there it was, like a glowing light on the shelf.  My Dr Pepper!  Now, they only had two types of D.P.: Diet or Caffeine Free.  Now, I really wanted the caffeine so I chose the diet Dr Pepper.  Just kidding!  I got the caffeine free D.P. . Walmart is the only place that sells D.P. (Don't worry, we are allowed to drink it. =) ) We then went down the chip aisle and they had Funyuns! And they were cheaper here than at home!  (which is usually the opposite)  So I got a bag of Funyuns.  Man, the life as a missionary.  It is great.

Well, I just had to call the familia Gutierrez and cancel our family home evening with them.  That was an experience.  It is really hard to understand Spanish over the telephone.  Whew!  Gotta love it!

Well, I hope that the girls get feeling better soon and that everyone else withstands the sick bug.  Has anyone seen Batman 3 yet?  I heard that it was amazing.  Also The Hobbit is coming out soon, in December.  You'll have to let me know how it is.  Well, just sitting here, sucking on a strawberry flavored hard candy, trying to think of things to write.

My companion finished a year on his mission on the 2nd of November.  He is a great companion.  Oh something funny that happened last week.  So, there's a word that everyone had been saying, "Chiquito" and it reminded me of ABBA's song, "Chiquitita".  So, one morning, we were headed to breakfast, and we flagged down a bus.  As I boarded the bus, I realized they were playing Chiquitita by ABBA.  I couldn't help but chuckle a little.  It also kind of surprised me, because what are the odds of it being that song, not very high.

Elder Leonardo and I love that song, "The Master's Hand".  We wake up to it every morning.  We set the alram for 6:25 a.m., then just sit in bed and listen to it till 6:30 a.m.  It is great.  We also turn on the music and go outside and look at the stars, trying to find constellations.  I don't think we've found one yet.  There also is a planet that we can see, but we aren't sure which one it is.  We have a lot fo fun.  There was a really beautiful sunset tonight, I'll have to send you a picture.  It was really neat.

Elder Leonardo wants to trade ties, but you know me, hate trading things.  So, I was wondering if you could find another.  I'll take a picture of them and send it to you.

Thank you for the addresses.  I really appreciate it.

So, every p-day I get on the computers at around 9-10.  Just so you know.  Sorry this letter is jumping all around, I'm just trying to think of things to say.

So, last Tuesday, we had to go to Immigration to get my Visa.  So, we travelled by bus which took a while, but when I got there, I had a great reunion with all the missionaries who came with me.  I also got to see the other missionaries, who are serving in Santa Ana. It was a great reunion.

Daniel Gutierrez just stopped by (the family we had planned to go have family home evening ).  He wanted to see if he could do anything for us.  He is a great guy and his family is great too.  They were just baptized before I came into the field.  They are a great family.

Oh, I have a talk for you guys to read.  It's called "The meaning of the Atonement", by Cleon Skousen.  It is a really good talk, but takes a good 30 minutes to read.  So, when you have time to spare, you can look it up.  It is really interesting and is really thought provoking.  Definitely worth reading .

So, another story.  Yesterday, we were visiting members and others after church, and after we left one house, Elder Leonardo had the impression to go visit Salvador. (He's a member, served a mission to Honduras, and is learning English.)  So we show up at his house and he tells us that he knew we'd come.  He had been praying that we'd come because he needed some help.  So, he told us he needed help with learning English Idioms for school or something.  So we had fun trying to explain the idioms to him like, "Fishy", "You're pulling my leg", and much more.  There were some that I had never even heard of before.  So, moral of the story; "Always listen to the promptings of the Spirit!"

Well, I think I am out of ideas.  I can't think of anything else to write about.

Well, I love you guys so much and am grateful that you are my family.  I couldn't ask for a better family than you guys.  Thanks for all that you do and it is great hearing from you.  If there is anything that I can do for you guys, let me know.

Well, love ya and See ya in 2!

Love,
Elder Bryce Rodney Hales
