We just called to get our scheduled surgery time- 6:15 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4th. Hooray for early morning. That means, Bryce will only have to miss breakfast.... hopefully. Bryce is actually hoping that they will let him come home tomorrow night instead of staying in the hospital and being awakened by nurses every two hours. I can't say that I blame him for wanting to come home. Hospital beds aren't that comfortable, but they sure do make it easier for getting him up and down.
We have been trying to fill in our waiting time with a variety of projects. (Projects are one thing that Bryce does miss participating in.) The Saturday before Memorial Day, we went out as a family and planted our garden. Bryce was in charge of the music and entertainment. We actually moved his recliner outside on a tarp we had out by the garden and then put in our shade umbrella to keep him out of the full sun. (We wouldn't want to roast him and have him look like an Oscar Meyer Wiener )
On the Sunday before Memorial Day, we visited a few grave sites with the family. We also spent Monday morning out in Hooper at the Cemetery visiting more graves and then looking at the Fowers Homestead. That is always a treat. We are reminded of how much we have been blessed. I can't imagine ten people living in this tiny little house. Just a little side note, Bryce's great great great grandma lived in this house. Her name is Annie Fowers Byington and it is through her that we are related to Leon and Juanita Fowers. Leon's grandpa Joseph is a brother to Annie and their parents are Jessie and Sarah Fowers who built this home after immigrating from England.
Bryce and I have also spent some time looking up ancestors on the Family Search website and our neighbor let us use her iPad to search through Ancestry files too from ancestry.com. (Thank you Juanita- you have no idea how much fun we have had.) We have hit a dead end on the Stakebake (Steckbeck) side and have been searching for the parents of those who left Germany back in the 1700's. (The name has both spellings in the sensus records.) Since they changed their name when they got to America, it makes it a little tricky finding out what their name was before. It was fun doing some detective work though and reading through the sensus that had our family names in Philedelphia, Pennsylvania when the Declaration of Independence was signed. Doing this kind of research is rather addicting. =)
We also had our sweet dog Goldie die on Thursday after 13 years of fun. She used to chew off the sprinkler heads when she was a puppy. Then she started digging! Oh the joy of training. We also had a cat get an infection in her cheek and we had to take her to the Vet to get fixed up. Pets are great for teaching kids responsibility and how to nurture and care for something else, but oh, it breaks my heart to see them say goodbye to a pet they have loved for so long. Bryce was 7 years old when we got Goldie.
We are making progress- however small it may be, it is still progress. What a blessing it is to live in this time and to have the technology we have. We have loved reading about our ancestors and finding stories about them and their trials. What great faith they had! Once again we are grateful for all of you. Have a great week!
