June 24 2013 Making Milestones

The Wride's pool- Bryce refuses to look at the camera.

Last week was a little bit busy and I put off writing- thinking that I would write on Sunday. Then we had some extra meetings on Sunday and some family time and it didn't happen.

Bryce had a physical therapy appointment last Monday and they upgraded his therapy with more stretches and exercises. They also added a few extras in there that weren't there for his right hip. We were able to get to the swimming pool Tuesday- Friday, which was super great. Bryce was still lacking energy and an appetite and this helped get him up and moving. There were a couple of days where Bryce didn't look so good. As a mom, I was a little worried. He got light headed when he stood up and he had dark circles around his eyes. (I thought only mom's got those. =) ) Being up and moving helped get the blood running to all parts of his body and he now wants more food and he has more energy and is once again smiling lots. He also got to work with Grandma on his painting.  It's a work in progress.

On Friday we spent an hour and half in the pool with the kids. It was a beautiful day and the pool was so warm. We are so grateful to the Wrides for letting us use their pool for Bryce's therapy- Thank you so much Wride family. Bryce and Tyler got a bit competitive there at the end and began racing from one end of the pool to the other. (Boys seem to like to compete with each other for some reason.) Tyler of course won and Bryce payed for it later! He couldn't hardly walk on Saturday or Sunday and missed church. However, today at the pool, Tyler and Bryce raced to one end and Bryce beat him by a second. Having the other kids there does help pass the time, especially when Gracie or Emma go off the diving board. For some reason Gracie decided to try a flip off the diving board last week and then did ten more in a row. She loves it! The boys were in awe that she would even try it.

We also hit another milestone with Gracie. She used to have a difficult time saying her 'r's, especially when it was at the end of a word like 'star' or when it was in the middle of a word like "world". Bryce has worked with her for a few years trying to help her learn how to pronounce that 'r' sound. Two of his favorite exercises were taken from the movie 'Oscar' "Round the rough and rugged rocks the ragged rascal rudely ran." and "Rocko the rum runner rubbed out Ricko the rat with his rosco for robbing his rum running receipts." If she would say these three times, Bryce would share his Waffle Crisp cereal with her. Well, on Friday, we were reading in 3rd Nephi and for the first time, we all heard her say 'for' and 'world' perfectly. I made her say it two more times, just because I was so excited.

Last Monday for Family Home Evening, Bryce was assigned the lesson. He used the video : "How can we find happiness?" and then bore his testimony. He shared his feelings about the love and support he has felt especially from the Savior. We have all realized, that no matter how bad things get, or how many trials we are faced with, the Lord is always there to help us through them. He will never leave us. He has sent many angels along the way to help us keep moving forward with faith.

If you didn't get a chance to watch the special broadcast on Sunday, here is the link: Hastening the Work of Salvation. During Elder Perry's talk he said, "The need to preach the gospel has never been needed more than today." With 70,274 missionaries in the field and 405 missions open, they are still asking for more missionaries. As we have been praying for Bryce to be healed and for help getting him back out in the mission field- this talk really hit home. During the last six months we have been praying to know what the Lord has in store for Bryce and we have wondered if he was really going to be able to get back out. (It's been a long six months.) Elder Perry answered my prayers. I came home and told Bryce, "We need to get you back out there! The Lord needs you back out there! Let's get you going so you can finish your mission and help further the work." We all need to get going to help further the work!

President Pitcher also sent us an e-mail from Guatemala. They are in need of more couples to help with the Guatemala City Temple work and the Guatemala CCM (MTC). If you are interested in going on a mission, talk with your Bishop and see what you can do to help.
