Hola Familia!
Well Everything here is going great. I am loving it here! So really quickly I will answer your questions.
1. Did you ever get the letter I sent to you at the Guatemala CCM? (It has that picture of Christ that I drew.)
Yes I got the letter. Everyone wanted to copy your picture but they wouldn`t let us. It is really great thank you.
2. Did you ride the bus or fly to El Salvador?
I took a bus.
3. How was the ride?
The ride was pretty good. It was about 6 hours because of traffic. But it was fun.
4. How long did it take to get to El Salvador?
Question 3 answers this.
5. How was the Temple?
The temple was amazing! I loved it so much. It is really beautiful. You guys will have to go some time. It is really amazing.
6. Did you get to meet anyone that Pres. Pitcher had given you names of? (like the convert that is serving in the Temple Presidency)
No, I asked for President Alas, but he had just barely left. So I haven`t met anyone on the list yet.
7. Did you stay at the Mission Home over night?
We didn`t get to stay at the mission home. We had to go to some other missionary home and stay there.
8. How many elders were with you entering the field?
There are 10 Elders (including me) and 2 sisters. Only 3 Americans and the rest are latinos.
9. Did you get your package on Wednesday when you met your companion? (if not, know that it is there in the mission home)
Yes, I got the package and it is great. Thank you so much. I am really enjoying the music.
10. Who is your new companion?
My new companion is Elder Leonardo
11. Where is your companion from?
He is from California
12. What is he like? (short, tall, Native, American, funny, nice, quiet, convert, any support from home, etc....)
He is really great. He is really nice and funny. He isn`t short, but he isn`t tall. He is taller than most of the people down here but shorter than me. He worked for Disney and played the trumpet for them. He is really great. I am so grateful for him to be my companion. It is honestly really nice to have a companion who can speak both english and spanish. I think I would go crazy if it was only spanish. He is really a great missionary. He loves the people and is very patient. The Lord knows what we need.
13. What area are you in?
I am in Soyapango, and the area Paleca.
14. What is the area like? (City, Outskirts, Jungle, Mountains etc.)
It depends on where you are. We have a Walmart here and malls, but in most of the areas it is jungly. A lot of hills, a lot of dogs, and a lot of chickens. They are everywhere! It is crazy. It is a really beautiful area.
15. Do you have a chapel to meet in?
We actually have a really nice chapel to meet in. It has AC and is fairly new.
16. What ward are you serving in?
I am serving in the Paleca ward. I don`t know if it has a different name.
17. What is your house like?
Our house is actually one of the nice ones. We have a little area in the back where we can wash clothes or work out or whatever. We have a shower, so I don`t have to take bucket showers, which is a huge blessing. The water isn`t very warm, but it isn`t freezing cold. It is bearable (spelling?) We have to sleep with a mosquito net, and I had to get pretty creative to figure out how to cover my bed.
18. Who’s Addresses would you like?
If you could get me any family who wants me to write to them, that would be great.
Wow, that was a lot of questions. Well, we have a family who basically does everything for us. They make us food, iron our clothes, etc. They are really nice and are very patient with me. I can understand basically everything, but it requires a lot of concentration. I always am mentally drained by the time I get home. Physically I am doing well. So, my companion has been telling everyone that I am the grandson, or great grandson of Elder Robert D. Hales. He said it makes the people think that I am here to report to him about the area or something like that. Also, I can`t remember if I told you this already, but, in the CCM, Elder Harumi said that I look like Woody from Toy Story. Then, last night, one of the daughters (Katey) of the family that takes care of us said the same thing. It was really weird.
So, we do most of our travelling by bus, and the drivers are really crazy. They are just like how Matt described them. Slow down for speed bumps, then step on the gas. It is crazy.
Well, everything is going great and I am really enjoying it down here. Oh, I also got to have my first pupusas the other day. They are so good! You will have to try them. Well, I love you guys so much and hope that all is well. I am going to try to send some pictures. We`ll see if it works. Also tell Tyler Happy Birthday on Wednesday! I hope that he has a good one.
Well, Love you guys and will see you in 2!
Love,
Elder Bryce R. Hales
